For decades, Dashers have celebrated the joy of Homecoming as many high schoolers do: cheering their classmates on from the stands, dancing the night away in the gymnasium, and dressing to show off their school spirit. However, in true Dasher fashion, students have given these standard practices a DSHA twist.

Without a football team playing under the Friday night lights, Dashers have been creative over the years. In the fall of 1990, students took the field to play the school’s first-ever Homecoming powderpuff touch football game (the sophomore-junior joint team took home the win 21-17). As Katie Bailey Kenlay, DSHA ’91, told The Word at the time: “Spirit is high this year, and this game boosted it even higher.” Over the years, other friendly competitions occupied Dashers during Homecoming, including senior vs. faculty kickball games and even pie-eating contests.
